Are Angels the new Vampires?

If you walk into a book store and head for the Young Adult section, you will be bombarded by books about Vampires.  I’m sure you’ve all heard about Twilight or Sookie Stackhouse by now.  No? (You must be living under a rock).  Then how about the Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead, The Vampire Diaries by LJ Smith  or The House of Night novels by P.C.Cast and Kristin Cast?  The list just grows from there.

But lately, I’ve been coming across a different fantasy creature.  Angels.  Lots and lots of angels.  Examples are Fallen by Lauren Kate, Hush Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick and Halo by Alexandra Adornetto .

Now, some books have both.  In Cassandra Clare’s City of Bone series, the good guys are angels who are determined to get rid of the bad guys, some of whom are vampires.  And in Melissa de la Cruz’s Blue Blood’s series – the vampires are actually angels.  They still drink blood, but are a tamer version of a vampire and their history proves they were once heavenly hosts.  In Eternal by Cynthia Leitich Smith the main heroine is a vampire and guess what she has….that’s right… a guardian angel!

Vampires – I guess your fifteen minutes of fame is up.
